Finding our way at the Scout-O

Over the last weekend of October, Scouts from Troop 603 participated in the New England Orienteering Club's annual Scout-O. What a great time. The Scouts did a great job in getting their campsite organized and operating, and four of our Scouts finished up their Cooking merit badges over the course of the weekend.

This was our first camp out using lean-tos at Nobscot Reservation in Sudbury. Given the rain when we arrived on Friday night, it was so nice to just step up onto a dry platform and unroll pads and sleeping bags and not worry about setting up tents and starting the weekend off in wet gear!

Saturday the boys learned and honed their orienteering skills with an NEOC Guide, and a couple of the older Scouts competed in the night Score-O. They came in 4th over-all!

On Sunday, the boys competed in teams of two on one of three different orienteering courses. Teams started off with two minutes to study their map and devise a plan, and then were off. Scoutmaster Matt competed in the Leader class, and took second place out of 25 competitors with a time of 41 minutes!
